Only 2.5 years and magnetron gave out

We purchased this GE OTR Microwave JVM6175DKWW in 11/2019. It is now 6/2022. Appliance repair person said the magnetron has gone bad and is not worth repairing. We loved this microwave but do not want to have to replace after only 2 years! We took very good care of it. Only two adults using it. Disappointed in this GE product.

Really miss using my older model

The microwave is functional and is supposed to have more room inside. It seems to be more powerful than my previous microwave. The major downsides are: (1) the vent fan has a high and low setting, but the low setting is really loud--scares my pets and can't hear the TV, and (2) the control buttons are hard to push.

We like our new micro-wave unit!

This new microwave unit is much better than the older, but similar, over-the-range unit ! However, there are 3 things that should be improved. Being an engineer, I will give my opinion. 1. The exhaust-fan made laud noise, but did not work. The supplier sent the installer back. The exhaust flapper had jammed. The flimsy sheet-metal surround around the opening prevented the flapper from opening. Probably got bumped during installation. Poor design! Got pushed back. It now works fine. I recommend simple redesign, using heavier sheet metal surround. . 2. The Surface Light compartment gets very hot when the light is on. This could cost malfunctions. 3. The smooth control panel looks nice and clean, but slightly projecting buttons could prevent making erroneous commands.

Needed Microwave

My last GE over the stove microwave stopped microwaving at 3 years. It was very disappointing as I have been using GE appliances for most of my life and I am a senior. Decided that perhaps it was a lemon and replaced it with GE again. So far this unit is much quieter and more efficient. Vent fan is stronger and surface light is brighter. Hope it lasts longer than 3 years!

We've had the microwave about 2 months and so far we love it! The sensor feature reheats our food perfectly, and the popcorn button did a great job on microwave popcorn--no burnt or unpopped kernels. The express buttons, 30-second button, and turntable on/off are great features. Other reviewers have stated that the vent fan is loud; however, since we've never had a vent fan before, we have nothing to compare it to. If I have any criticism at all, I do wish the surface light was a little more bright, but it's definitely adequate.

Purchased this microwave to replace the 20-year old former GE model that came with the house. It is noisy! When you close the door, it clangs like cheap tin, and when it is in operation you can hear the motor from across the room. Seems to have no sound insullation at all, and sounds "tinny", and cheap.

Door handle broke 2x in less than 2 years

First time it was replaced under warranty. Second time the microwave isn't under warranty any longer but the part is. Except they charge for the service call ($109) and labor (won't quote me a price) and they won't send me the part to install myself. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

I bought this microwave based on four different criteria, one of which was the number of surface/night light bulbs. The specifications said this microwave had two bulbs, which is what I wanted. Upon receiving the microwave, we found that it has only one surface light bulb. Customer service confirmed that the product had been modified to have only one bulb now, but the online specs were never updated. After using the microwave, I'm not impressed with the sensor cooking. All of our sensor-cooked food has been way too hot/overcooked. I have also found no difference between 50% power and 100% power when heating food. So can we heat our food in this microwave? Yes Am I happy with how it performs? No

Love the sensor!

This microwave has been great so far! The sensor is especially wonderful! Instead of using a fixed time, it determines how long the food should be heated based on the size. On my previous microwave, the potato button always lasted 5 minutes which doesn't work well for small potatoes. Therefore, I could only use that button for big potatoes. However, this microwave works for all sizes of potatoes because it has a shorter cook time for smaller potatoes.

I'm loving this microwave - first time I've had one above my stove and it's working out great. Only problem is that my son, who has some disabilities, got so used to using our old countertop microwave that he's having a hard time getting used to new buttons and features! It's OK, he'll eventually get as proficient on this new one as he got on the old - and he can see his food cooking at eye level now! The only other drawback is, even for me, getting used to new auto sensors and times is tricky. But, yes, it is possible to teach an old dog new tricks!

VERY NOISY!! Cheap looking, GE emblem looks like a game token. Glass frame surround is not symmetrical, which doubles the cheap look. Needs an adjustment for display brightness to tone it down. Surface light housing should be recessed to be flush with the bottom edge, so it's not so visible. This microwave was recommended by GE as a replacement for our previous GE model purchased in 2015. Very disappointed!
